Camilleri on worker ratification of UAW, GM agreement

LANSING — Local United Auto Workers (UAW) members officially ratified an agreement between the union and General Motors (GM), bringing the 40-day national strike to an end. The agreement includes permanent jobs for temporary employees, as well as significant domestic investments in the automaker’s plants and facilities. In celebration of the announcement, state Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown) issued the following statement:

“When I was growing up, the UAW was the reason my dad was able to provide a good life for us, and it’s the reason my family had healthcare. These are the basic rights that workers across the country have been bravely fighting for over these past several weeks—not just for themselves, but for a better standard of living for all Michiganders. I stand with the UAW today, and want to congratulate them on this victory for workers everywhere.”
